Fiddler on the Roof

Norman Jewison · 1971 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A dairyman in a Ukrainian village argues with God on his rounds while his three eldest daughters each choose a husband further outside the rules he has lived by: a poor tailor, a student radical, and finally a gentile. Between the marriages the Tsar's officers keep arriving with paper. Jewison shot the village in Yugoslavia and had Isaac Stern record the violin solos, and it took three Academy Awards.
