Vincent in Brixton

Nicholas Wright · 2002 CE · Play · English · Contemporary

In 1873 the twenty-year-old Van Gogh, working for an art dealer, lodges in Brixton with a widowed landlady, Ursula Loyer, and her daughter. Before he is a painter he is a lonely clerk falling in love, and the play stays with that unformed period. Premiered at the National Theatre in 2002, it imagines an undocumented year of a famous life.
