Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Edward Albee · 1962 CE · Play · Modern / American · Contemporary

A middle-aged history professor and his wife, who is the daughter of the college president, come home from a faculty party at two in the morning and receive a younger couple for a nightcap. Over the hours that follow the hosts run their marriage as a sequence of games with announced rules, drawing the guests in as players and as witnesses. Albee's first full-length work took the Tony and was chosen for the Pulitzer by the drama jury before the board overruled them.
