Zahrah the Windseeker

Zahrah is born dada, with dreadlocks, and is mocked in the northern kingdom of Ooni for an old rumour that such children have magical powers. When her best friend Dari falls into a coma after a snake bite, she must enter the forbidden Greeny Jungle in search of the egg that can save him. Okorafor's first novel for young readers draws on West African settings and won the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa.
