A Disappearing Number

The play interweaves the collaboration of the Indian mathematician Ramanujan with G. H. Hardy in Cambridge between 1913 and 1919 with a present-day lecturer in mathematics, whose husband has died. Number theory is made a form of longing and loss. A piece devised by the Complicite company and credited to McBurney as director; premiered in Plymouth and at the Barbican in 2007.
