Shakespeare's Sonnets
A hundred and fifty-four poems, most of them addressed to a young man urged first to marry and then to survive in verse, the rest to a dark lady the speaker wants and does not trust. Running through them are time, jealousy, a rival poet, a betrayal between friends, and the arithmetic of loss. Neither addressee is ever named.
