Pericles

William Shakespeare · c. 1608 CE · Play · English · Renaissance

A prince of Tyre solves a riddle he would have done better to fail, and leaves in haste with an assassin behind him. Shipwreck, famine relief, a tournament and a marriage carry him around the eastern Mediterranean, until a storm at sea takes his wife and separates him from his newborn daughter. Loss and wandering staged as romance, at the far end of Shakespeare's career.
