Henry VI, Part 2

William Shakespeare · c. 1591 CE · Play · English · Renaissance

The young king's marriage to Margaret of Anjou costs England its French territory and leaves a court of rival lords circling a ruler with no appetite for ruling. Good Duke Humphrey is brought down by a conspiracy, Jack Cade's rebellion burns through London, and York comes back from Ireland with an army and a claim to the crown. The middle panel of Shakespeare's first history cycle, where the Wars of the Roses begin in earnest.
