Coriolanus

William Shakespeare · c. 1608 CE · Play · English · Renaissance

Caius Martius, Rome's best soldier and worst politician, takes the Volscian city of Corioles and comes home to a consulship he can have only by showing his wounds to the crowd and asking for their votes. He cannot bring himself to flatter them, the tribunes turn the people against him, and he is banished from the city he saved. A study of a man with one virtue and no others, and of what Rome does with him.
