Black Flower
Kim Young-ha · 2003 CE · Novel · Korean · Contemporary
In 1905 more than a thousand Koreans sail from Chemulpo to Mexico, bound by contract to labour on the henequen plantations of the Yucatan. The cast of former soldiers, servants, a eunuch and a shaman scatters across plantation life and then the upheaval of the Mexican Revolution. Based on a real migration, it was translated into English in 2012.
