The Saga of the Greenlanders

Anonymous · c. 1270 CE · Novel · Norse / Germanic · Medieval

Blown off the run from Iceland to the new Greenland colony, a trader sights a wooded coast away to the west and does not put in, and the sons of Erik the Red buy his ship to go and look at it. Successive parties overwinter at a place they name Vinland for its vines, cut timber and trade cloth for furs with people they call skraelings. Preserved only in the fourteenth-century Flateyjarbok.
