Eyes Without a Face

Georges Franju · 1960 CE · Film · French · Contemporary

A celebrated Paris surgeon keeps his daughter hidden in his house behind a smooth white mask after a car crash he caused took her face. His assistant lures young women back from the city so that he can attempt a graft, and the failures are buried in the grounds. Its calm, near-documentary operating scene sent censors and audiences into uproar in 1960 and set the terms for European art-horror.
