Faust

Aleksandr Sokurov · 2011 CE · Film · Russian · Contemporary

A doctor cutting up a corpse in a filthy German town cannot find the soul in it, and is short of money; the moneylender who takes an interest in him is a pawnbroker with a misshapen body and no interest in souls as anything but stock. The bargain, when it comes, is haggled rather than sworn. Sokurov's fourth study of power, and the one where the man sells himself cheapest.
