Olga Tokarczuk · 2007 CE · Novel · Polish · Contemporary

A narrator and a cast of travellers pass through airports, anatomical museums and hotel rooms in fragments, among them Chopin's heart carried back to Warsaw, the anatomist Verheyen and a woman who vanishes on a Croatian island. Tokarczuk calls it a constellation novel, assembled from its pieces rather than plotted. It won Poland's Nike Award in 2008 and the Man Booker International in 2018.
