High Noon

A marshal marries a Quaker and turns in his badge on the morning a man he sent to prison is due back on the noon train, with three friends already waiting at the depot. He drives out of town, turns the buggy round, and spends eighty minutes of screen time and eighty of story time asking to have deputies sworn in. Carl Foreman wrote it under subpoena from the House committee and was blacklisted before release.
