House of Glass
Pramoedya Ananta Toer · 1988 CE · Novel · Indonesian · Contemporary
The telling passes to Pangemanann, the French-educated police commissioner whose job is to watch the native movement and whose first assignment was to remove Minke from it. He keeps the confiscated manuscripts in his own house, reads them at night, drinks, and files the reports that break the men he most admires. The quartet closes from inside the colonial machine, narrated by the man operating it.
