Kalila and Dimna
Two jackals at a lion's court, one loyal and one an intriguer, frame a chain of animal fables offered as instruction for princes: the ox slandered into disgrace, the ring-dove flock that escapes a net by rising together, the monkey and the tortoise. Ibn al-Muqaffaʿ put the book into Arabic prose from a lost Pahlavi version of the Sanskrit original, adding chapters of his own and a prologue on how to read it. The most traveled book of the medieval world, reaching Europe through Hebrew, Latin, and Castilian and carrying Indian narrative technique with it.
