Dirty Hands

Jean-Paul Sartre · 1948 CE · Play · French · Contemporary

A young bourgeois intellectual comes out of prison in a small Central European country at the end of the war and reports to the party, which must decide whether he is still of any use to it. Two years earlier he was planted as secretary in the household of a leader suspected of preparing a deal with the regent, with orders to kill him, and he took his wife along. His most performed work, seized on by the right and withdrawn by him for years.
