Kiss Me Deadly

Robert Aldrich · 1955 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Private eye Mike Hammer picks up a terrified hitchhiker on a night road, and her murder drags him toward a stolen box whose contents everyone is willing to kill for. Aldrich turned Mickey Spillane's 1952 novel, absent from this archive, inside out — making its brutal hero a dupe in an atomic-age apocalypse — and the Cahiers critics took it as proof of noir's delirious late style.
