The Strange Love of Martha Ivers
Lewis Milestone · 1946 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary
Two children try to run from a Pennsylvania mill town on a night of heavy rain; the girl's aunt catches them at the top of the stairs, and the boy sees what happens next. Eighteen years later he drives back into Iverstown by accident and finds her running the family works, with an alcoholic district attorney for a husband. Kirk Douglas made his debut as the husband in one of the crime cycle's most airless company towns.
