Scarlet Street

Fritz Lang · 1945 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A meek cashier with twenty-five years at the same firm walks home in the rain, breaks up what looks like an assault, and falls for the woman he has rescued. She and her boyfriend, who was the assailant, discover that he paints on Sundays and begin selling his canvases under her name. Lang remade Renoir's La Chienne with the Production Code watching, and several state boards banned it anyway.
