Lust for Life

Vincente Minnelli · 1956 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Turned down for the ministry, a Dutch pastor's son goes as a lay preacher into the Borinage coal district, gives away his clothes and his bed to the miners, and is dismissed for excessive zeal. He begins drawing the people he lived among, moves through The Hague, Paris and Arles on his brother's money, and takes in a painter who does not stay long. Anthony Quinn won an Oscar for eight minutes as Gauguin.
