An American in Paris

Vincente Minnelli · 1951 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

An ex-GI painting on the Left Bank is taken up by a rich American woman who buys his canvases and expects his company, and then he sees a shop girl at a nightclub table. She is promised to the singer who sheltered her through the occupation, a friend of the pianist upstairs. Minnelli closed on a seventeen-minute danced ballet staged after Dufy, Renoir, Utrillo and Toulouse-Lautrec, with no dialogue in it.
