Memories of Murder
In a rain-soaked farming province in 1986, two local detectives used to beating out confessions are joined by a methodical recruit from Seoul to hunt South Korea's first recorded serial killer. Adapted from Kim Kwang-rim's 1996 play Come to See Me, absent from this archive, it turned the real Hwaseong killings into a portrait of an authoritarian state unable to see its own guilt, and stands at the head of the Korean thriller's international ascendancy.
