Midnight Cowboy

John Schlesinger · 1969 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A Texas dishwasher buys a fringed cowboy outfit, takes a bus to New York and expects the city's women to pay for his company. Broke within weeks, he falls in with a limping consumptive con man squatting in a condemned building, and the two keep each other alive through a winter. Released with an X rating from the new ratings board, it remains the only such release to win Best Picture.
