Short stories in which ordinary domestic life tips without warning into the uncanny, among them that of a girl who has begun to eat live birds. The collection won the Casa de las Americas prize in 2008 and appeared as Pajaros en la boca in 2009. Its English translation by Megan McDowell, a decade later, established Schweblin in the Anglophone world.
