Perfect Days

Wim Wenders · 2023 CE · Film · Japanese · Contemporary

A man in his sixties wakes before dawn in a small flat in Tokyo, waters the seedlings on his windowsill, and drives out to clean the city's public toilets with brushes and angled mirrors he has assembled himself. The rest of the day goes to a secondhand paperback, a bathhouse, cassette tapes in the van and a film camera pointed up through leaves, until a niece turns up who has run away from her mother. Commissioned out of the Tokyo Toilet architecture project and shot in seventeen days, it won Koji Yakusho the best actor prize at Cannes.
