Releasing the Sheep
An old widower in Lhasa dreams of his dead wife and buys a sheep to save it from the slaughterhouse. The act of mercy draws him into the customs of Tibetan Buddhist life and the changing city around him. Tsering Norbu, a Tibetan writer working in Chinese, became the first Tibetan author to win the Lu Xun Literary Prize with it.
