Right You Are (If You Think So)
A new secretary at the prefecture keeps his wife in a top-floor flat at the edge of town and will not let her mother past the courtyard gate; notes travel up and down in a basket on a string. The mother tells the neighbours he is deranged by grief and believes his wife died; he tells them she is deranged and takes his present wife for her dead daughter. Pirandello made it from his own story about the pair and gave the audience a laughing raisonneur who refuses to supply the fact they want.
