Scream

Wes Craven · 1996 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A caller asks a California teenager about her favourite scary pictures and then tells her to look out the window, and the killings that follow fall on the anniversary of another girl's mother's murder. The survivors keep explaining the rules of the genre they are inside while a news van parks on the lawn. Craven and Kevin Williamson made the conventions the characters' own subject, and restarted the slasher cycle for a decade.
