Shine
Scott Hicks · 1996 CE · Film · Australian · Contemporary
A Perth prodigy is drilled by a father who survived the camps and will not let a son leave the family, and who cuts him off entirely when he takes a scholarship to London and attempts the Rachmaninoff Third. Years later he turns up at a wine bar, talking in loops, and plays for the customers. Geoffrey Rush took the Academy Award, and Helfgott's family disputed the account.
