The Miracle Worker
A half-blind young teacher arrives at an Alabama house in 1887 to work with a deaf and blind girl of six whose family has stopped correcting her out of pity. She takes the child to a garden cottage for two weeks alone, to break the habits of the household and spell words into her hand. Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke carried their stage roles over and both won Oscars; the dining-room fight runs nearly ten minutes near-wordless.
