Over two years of 1958 to 1959 the painter Mark Rothko works on his Seagram murals in a New York studio, with a young assistant who begins to argue back. The question is what art is for once it is commissioned for a restaurant. Premiered at the Donmar Warehouse in 2009 and transferred to Broadway; a two-hander of ideas.
