Suite Française

Irène Némirovsky · 2004 CE · Novel · French · Contemporary

The first part follows Parisians of every class fleeing the city in the exodus of June 1940. The second shows a German occupation settling on a French village and the intimacies it breeds. Némirovsky wrote it in 1941-42 as the first two of five planned movements and was killed at Auschwitz; it was published from her manuscript in 2004.
