The 400 Blows
François Truffaut · 1959 CE · Film · French · Contemporary
Antoine Doinel, thirteen and in the way at home, skips school in Paris, forges an excuse for it, and steals a typewriter to fund a run for freedom. Nobody in the film is a monster; he is simply surplus to everyone else's arrangements. The film that opened the French New Wave, and the first of five about the same boy.
