The Art of Resurrection
In the Chilean northern desert of the 1930s, a wandering preacher who calls himself the Christ of Elqui draws crowds among the nitrate miners, and a prostitute, Magalena Mercado, follows him. The novel sets the visionary's claim against the poverty and the harsh labour around him. It won the Premio Alfaguara and is the best known book by the Chilean writer.
