The Canterbury Tales

Chaucer · c. 1400 CE · Poem · English · Medieval

Some thirty pilgrims meet at a Southwark inn and agree to tell stories on the road to Canterbury, with a free supper for whoever tells the best. Knight, miller, pardoner, wife of Bath and the rest take turns, quarrelling with and answering each other as they ride. A whole society talking in one voice each.
