Troilus and Criseyde
In the seventh year of the siege a Trojan prince who has mocked lovers all his life is caught by the sight of a widow in a black habit, and her uncle Pandarus takes on the arranging with an energy neither of them asked for. Chaucer builds the affair slowly across three books before the war outside starts making the decisions. He worked from Boccaccio's Il Filostrato and roughly doubled it, mostly by letting the characters think.
