The Elephant Man
A London surgeon finds a severely deformed man exhibited in a sideshow, buys an examination, and brings him into the hospital expecting an idiot; the man recites the Twenty-third Psalm. Society ladies begin to call, and the question of whether the hospital is a rescue or another exhibition stays open. Lynch shot Victorian London in black and white and kept the industrial soundscape of his first work running underneath it.
