The Third Life of Grange Copeland

Alice Walker · 1970 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

A Georgia sharecropper works land he will never own, and the debt and the daily humiliation come home to his wife and to his son Brownfield, who inherits both. Grange leaves for the North and returns years later to find his granddaughter Ruth growing up in the wreckage. Walker's first book laid out the cycle of violence inside poor Black families that her later work kept returning to.
