The Enormous Room

E. E. Cummings · 1922 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Modernist

An American driving ambulances in France in 1917 is arrested on the strength of a friend's letters, moved by stages under guard, and put into one long room at a detention camp in Normandy with thirty men nobody has charged. Among them he finds the ones he calls the Delectable Mountains — a Dutch giant, a scavenger, a Black man from Trinidad. Bunyan's scheme carries the whole account, written up from notes at his father's insistence.
