Papillon

Franklin J. Schaffner · 1973 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A Paris safecracker convicted of a murder he denies is shipped to the penal colony in French Guiana and attaches himself to a forger with money sewn into his body, on the understanding that one funds escapes and the other is protected. Recapture brings years of solitary on half rations in a dark cell. Schaffner shot the colony in Jamaica and Spain, from a convict memoir long disputed as fact.
