Patton

Franklin J. Schaffner · 1970 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

An American general takes command in North Africa, drills a beaten corps back into shape and races Montgomery for Messina, convinced he has fought these fields in earlier lives. A slap delivered to a shell-shocked soldier in a field hospital costs him the command he wants most. Coppola's draft, written while he was unknown, opens with a monologue before an enormous flag that admirers and detractors both claimed.
