The Bridge on the River Kwai

David Lean · 1957 CE · Film · English · Contemporary

British prisoners in a Japanese camp in Burma are ordered to build a railway bridge, and their colonel turns a point of military law into a battle of wills with the commandant. Winning it, he drives his men to build the finest bridge they can, while an escaped American is sent back through the jungle to destroy it. Its seven Oscars rested on a screenplay credited to a front, the blacklisted writers named only decades later.
