The Hustler

Robert Rossen · 1961 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A young pool hustler works his way to a Manhattan room to challenge the country's best straight-pool player, and loses across twenty-five hours of play because he cannot stop while he is ahead. Broke, and living with a woman who drinks, he takes on a manager who supplies stake money and terms. Its smoky deep-focus black-and-white made the pool hall a serious American setting and revived the game commercially.
