The Last of the Mohicans

James Fenimore Cooper · 1826 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Romantic

In the summer of 1757 two daughters of a British colonel ride for their father's besieged fort, and the Huron scout guiding them is walking the party into an ambush. A frontier marksman and his two Mohican companions cut the trail through the woods of upper New York and take over the journey. Cooper's second Leatherstocking tale fixed the American wilderness romance and its idea of the vanishing native.
