The Producers

Mel Brooks · 1967 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A failing Broadway producer who lives off elderly investors works out with his neurotic accountant that a show certain to close on its first night would let them keep everything they raise. They hunt down the worst script in New York, a musical written by an unrepentant former Nazi, and hire the worst director available. Brooks took an original screenplay Oscar with a joke about Hitler nobody expected to reach cinemas.
