Through the Looking-Glass
Half a year on, the same girl climbs the mantelpiece and through the glass into a house where everything runs backwards and a country laid out as a chessboard, where she is entered as a white pawn with eight squares to cross. Talking flowers, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, a wood where nothing has a name and a knight who cannot stay on his horse all belong to the board. Carroll's second book is the colder of the pair, and it carries the Jabberwocky.
