Top Hat
An American dancer rehearsing in a London hotel taps on the ceiling of the room below, whose occupant takes him for her best friend's husband and treats every advance as an injury; the misunderstanding follows them to a white Art Deco Venice built on a soundstage. Astaire choreographed in long unbroken takes that hold two whole bodies in frame. Berlin's score gave the pairing its standards, and this was their most profitable.
