Voltairians and Voltairiennes

Vasily Aksyonov · 2004 CE · Novel · Russian · Contemporary

Two young Russians are sent by Catherine the Great to Ferney to learn from Voltaire and carry his wit home, and their education crosses courts and alcoves. Aksyonov called it an old-fashioned novel, an eighteenth-century pastiche written from late-Soviet exile.
